McLean Little League will field Softball All-Star teams at five different levels this year.
Teams may be fielded for the
- 9-10 All-Stars,
- 10-11 All-Stars,
- Majors (ages 11-12),
- Juniors (ages 13 and 14), and
- Seniors (ages 14 -16).
Although McLean Little League is organized under two charters (American and National Leagues), the softball program is chartered in the National League.
McLean Softball will field one team in each of the following age groups:
The 9-10 Softball All-Star team will go to the State Tournament in Aragona-Pembroke beginning on July 13. The 9-10 team is selected by the manager of the team in consultation with other managers and coaches.
In 1999, 2003 and 2004 the 9-10 Softball All-Star team captured the Virginia State Championship. Any player age 9 or 10 is eligible for this team.
The 10-11 Softball All-Star team will go to the State Tournament in Elkton beginning on July 20. The District tournament is typically played shortly after July 4th and is the best of three games. The 10-11 team is selected by the manager of the team in consultation with other managers and coaches. Any player age 10 or 11 playing Majors or Super AAA Softball is eligible for this team.
The McLean Little League Majors (11/12) Softball All-Star team will advance to the State Tournament to be held in Pound beginning on July 12. The winner of the State Tournament will advance to the Southern Region Tournament in St. Petersburg, Florida which begins in late July. The winner of the Southern Region advances to the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon beginning August 9.
The Majors All-Star team is selected by the softball players (first 5 selections), the Major League Softball managers (up to 7 selections) and the manager of the All-Star team (up to 2 selections). Any player age 11 or 12 playing in Majors is eligible for this team.
The McLean Majors Softball All-Stars have won the State Tournament in 1995, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Those teams then advanced to the Southern Regional Tournament. The 2003 and 2004 teams won the Southern Region and advanced to the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon. The 2003 team finished second at the World Series while the 2004 team won the Little League World Series championship.
The Juniors Softball All-Star team will advance to the State Tournament to be held in Grottoes beginning on July 20. The winner of the State Tournament will advance to the Southern Regional in Fort Myers, Florida which begins in late July. The winner of the Southern Region advances to the Junior League Softball World Series in Fort Myers, Florida August 4-8.. The Juniors All-Star team is selected by the players (first 5 selections), the Senior League Softball managers (up to 7 selections) and the manager of the All-Star team (up to 2 selections). Any player ages 13 or 14 is eligible for this team.
The Seniors Softball All-Star team will advance to the State Tournament to be held in Ladysmith beginning on July 20. The winner of the State Tournament will advance to the Southern Regional in Ladysmith, Virginia which begins in late July. The winner of the Southern Region advances to the Senior League Softball World Series in Lower Sussex, Delaware beginning in early August. The Seniors All-Star team is selected by the players (first 5 selections), the Senior League Softball managers (up to 7 selections) and the manager of the All-Star team (up to 2 selections).
