Baseball and Softball Volunteers Needed



Team Managers: - Managers at all levels are critical to the overall success of MLL. Managers should have an extensive knowledge of Baseball/Softball and coaching experience. Managers need to have a good understanding of technical (Baseball/Softball) skills in order to run a well organized practice. They need to know the rules and how to manage a game. They must also have good communication skills with the players and parents. As important, Managers must be able to demonstrate and encourage good sportsmanship with the players, coaches, opposing managers and the umpires. Each Manager must be approved by the Board of Directors before each season.
 
Team Coach - Coaches work with the manager in teaching skills and knowledge of the game in order to improve the overall abilities of each player. At the Major League Baseball and Softball level, as well as Senior Softball, new coaches shall not be appointed or approved until after the completion of the draft. A coach must be approved by the Board of Directors to perform duties assigned by the manager. There is a limit of two (2) official coaches per team.
 
Team Parent - Handle administrative responsibilities assigned by manager. Such duties could include coordinating picture day, organizing telephone tree, planning team party, coordinating snack bar duty. There is a limit of one (1) team parent per team.

Team Sponsor
- An individual or business may sponsor a team. Fees vary depending on the level of team sponsored. The Sponsors name and logo are printed on the front of the team shirts, they receive a business card ad in the McLean Little League Yearbook and a brick commemorating their sponsorship on the “Walk of Fame” near the snack bar.
 
Bat-A-Thon® – Assist Lisa Haas and Margaret Lewis, Co-Chairs, in planning, organizing, and managing the day’s activities. The Bat-A-Thon® is critically important to funding improvements to our facilities.
 
Golf Tournament Committee - Responsible for assisting the Golf Tournament Co-Chairs Jim Triantos, Ryan Bensten and David Ritchey in organizing the Chain Bridge Terry Mahony Golf Classic. Volunteers are needed on the day of the tournament with registration, photography, plus others with duties to be assigned as needed.
 
Parade Committee - Responsible for assisting Armen Clark, Chairman, in organizing the season opening parade and ceremony as well as closing ceremonies. Duties include coordinating with Fairfax County for permits, obtaining dignitaries for opening ceremonies, and providing on-site assistance during parade and clean-up.
 
Snack Bar Committee – Assist Snack Bar Co-Chairs Andrea Del Vecchio and Maria Thompson in planning, organizing and managing the Snack Bar. Responsible for reminding team managers and team parents of their scheduled volunteer shift at the snack bar and supervising volunteers working the snack bar.
 
Tournament Committee – Volunteers are needed to plan and implement the City Series tournament and assist with All-Star Tournament games played at our fields.
 
Try-Outs - Assist Vice Presidents and player agents during the tryouts checking in players, running the pitching machine, timing players running, or playing catch with players.
 
Umpires – McLean Little League maintains a roster of teen-age and adult umpires for baseball and softball. In addition for softball the Chief Umpire utilizes “professional” umpires from the Northern Virginia umpire organizations. Volunteers are needed to umpire games as well as to assist in training and scheduling umpires. The need for volunteer umpires for the league is critical.
