Safety for Players & Visitors
Each year, Little League International requires that a comprehensive Safety Program be developed and implemented.
The MLL Safety Program includes the following:
Players
- In the event of an injury, an Injury Form is REQUIRED to be filed with the Safety Officer and report turned in at the snack bar.
- Catchers must wear all catchers’ equipment, including the face mask, when warming up pitchers between innings and during practice in the bullpen. Catchers must wear their face mask when taking infield practice before a game.
- Batters must wear approved protective helmets during batting practice and during games. Helmets are to be worn while warming up.
- There is no “On Deck Circle” in Little League and the next batter may not take warm up swings in the dugout. He/she should not pick up a bat until he/she is ready to leave the dugout and go to the batter’s box.
- When using the batting cages at MLL games, players should not swing a bat when outside the cages.
- MLL strongly suggests that all players have protective face gear attached to their helmets and urges parents to provide their children with mouth guards.
- MLL softball is requiring a cage face guard on players helmets.
Coaches/ Volunteers
- League volunteers are required to register and agree to a background check in order to participate.
- Managers or coaches, at no time, should not warm up pitchers. This is a violation of Little League International rules. Umpires and board members will enforce this rule.
- Wearing a helmet is optional for adult base coaches in all levels of Little League Baseball and Softball.
Weather:
- No games or practices shall be held when weather or field conditions are unsafe, particularly when lightning is apparent. Umpires will resume play 15 minutes after the lightning strike. Please review specific Lightning Policy.
